As a spiritual community and a place of refuge we have a responsibility to do our best to protect the wellbeing and safety of our visiting guests, our teachers and
our residential community.
In light of the coronavirus pandemic we have been closely monitoring the developing situation and, being mindful of government recommendations and also the advice from our trustees, we have decided to close the centre after Sunday 22 March. The centre will remain closed throughout April and all activities including classes, teachings and regular group practice will be cancelled during this period.

Beginners Meditation Course -
Initially training in meditation is simply the practice of paying attention to what we are doing while we are doing it, whatever this may be. In the Buddhist tradition, this type of attention is called mindfulness.
Shinay Meditation is the process of using simple methods such as focusing on the breath to stabilise our minds. Modern life can be stressful and busy. Most of the time we are carried along by the force of emotions, habits and conditioning and end up feeling tired and stressed by everyday life. Practicing meditation can change this.
Meditation can help bring about a natural sense of peace and well-being that can extend to every aspect of our lives. People who meditate regularly tend to sleep better and handle the ups and downs of daily life with more clarity and ease. A regular meditation practice can bring a greater sense of inner peace and calm an overactive mind.
This weekly beginners meditation course is taking place every Thursday evening for 4 weeks from 19.00 and 20.30 and is perfect for beginners. It will include posture, relaxation, breathing and other meditation essentials, and there will be small break-out groups to enable discussion.
Our courses tend to fill up quickly, so booking a place in advance is absolutely necessary. We ask that people booking for this course commit to attend all the scheduled classes. If you are unable to commit to full attendance, please do not reserve a place which could have been given to someone else.
Traditionally the Buddhist teachings are given freely because they are considered priceless and those receiving the teachings practice generosity, or Dana, by making monetary offerings for the centre. This generosity is not payment for goods or services rendered; it is an offering given, freely from the heart, in appreciation for receiving the precious instructions that can help better one’s life and the lives of others.
Making a donation directly helps to provide all the necessary conditions for the study and practice of meditation and Buddhism, bringing teachers to teach and maintaining a spiritual community as well as contributing to the considerable expenses that are involved in running a centre. We are grateful for your support and hope to continue to provide a space of peace and calm dedicated to promoting world peace and good health of body and mind.
