Further News of Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche

I know all of you have been waiting for further news. It has now been confirmed that the precious body of my brother, Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche will be taken to his monastery, Dolma Lhakang, in the Tibetan Autonomous Region for the prayers and cremation accorded to a high Rinpoche.

You may have read that three men have been arrested in connection with the murders of Akong Tulku Rinpoche, his nephew and his attendant.

As you know, Akong Tulku Rinpoche was about to embark on his annual tour visiting the projects of ROKPA INTERNATIONAL, the charity he founded, which provides education and healthcare in the most remote areas, to give them the funds raised during the year.

We believe that those arrested were trying to get hold of these funds. Rinpoche died protecting them and has sacrificed his life to safeguard the monies destined for the thousands of Tibetan people who depend on him.

With thanks for your prayers and good wishes,
Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche
Abbot of Kagyu Samye Ling

Akong Labrang Memorial Fund

The tragic news of Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche's sudden death has deeply affected everyone who knew him.

Rinpoche was highly respected and loved by many thousands of people all over the world and we intend to do everything to honour the passing of such a great being. Therefore we have established the Akong Labrang Memorial Fund, dedicated to his memory and to continuing his work.

We are committed to raising enough money to ensure that all the appropriate prayers are done for him for the traditional 49 days in many major Monasteries, and these will all require substantial offerings. We also need to build a Kudung for Rinpoche's remains as well as doing everything we can to continue funding the many humanitarian projects he has established that benefit so many people in need. We cannot let them down and indeed we should improve and increase the help we give, as Rinpoche would have wished.

Therefore I ask any of you who wish to support Rinpoche to send whatever you can - whether a single amount or monthly installments. To make a single offering please click here, and for information about making monthly payments please contact

I thank you for your help and for all your kind messages of sympathy. Every one of them is appreciated.
