Fifth Minyak Rinpoche, Tulku Ogyen Nyima

The Venerable Fifth Minyak Rinpoche, Tulku Ogyen Nyima, was born in 1976. He was a very kind, honest and pleasant child and in 1984  H.E. Shukgang Matrul Rinpoche and H.E. Sera Yangtrul Rinpoche recognised and named him The Fifth Minyak Rinpoche. That same year Rinpoche was taken by his parents to see His Holiness Khenchen Jigme Phuntsok in Serta Monastery. His Holiness was very pleased with him and asked him to continue studying in Lharung (Serta), however he came back to Minyak Monastery to learn reading and writing under the guidance of Lama Dorje.

In 1989 at the age of fourteen, Rinpoche took on all the responsibilities for the monastery, including leading the major ritual ceremonies and the reading of texts, as well as giving empowerments and instructions.

In 1992 Rinpoche received Tantric teachings from H. H. Khenchen Jigme Phuntsok at the Five Sciences of Buddhism University (in Serta).  In 1996 he entered the Shedra at Palyul and Namdroling Monastery to study and master Buddhist philosophy, which he completed in 2006 having received many high awards.

Rinpoche then started to teach in the Namdroling Junior School, the Tsogyal Nunnery Institute and the Ngagyur Nyingma Institute. For four years he was also the main editor of many books in the Ngagyur Rigzod Editorial Committee.

In 2008 he received special Master, Doctorate and Professor degrees from His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, after which His Holiness requested him to look after Minyak Monastery in Tibet, and also sent him to Taiwan to teach. Rinpoche has taught in several other countries, including Australia,  Indonesia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao, Belgium and the UK.

He married Akong Tulku Rinpoche's niece, Drolkar Lhamo, in 2010 and they now have two children. He is currently one of the teachers in the Samye Ling mandala and as a master of both the Kagyu and Nyingma traditions, he is available to bestow initiations and give teachings at Samye Ling and its branches and associated centres.
