This course is suitable for anyone who has had some previous meditation instruction and would like to learn more about Shamatha meditation.
The course can be attended as a follow-up to the Guide to Shamatha Meditation course that took place in June as well as a follow up to the Introduction to Meditation courses, or simply as a way to continue to deepen ones understanding, clarify uncertainties and gain more experience in ones meditation.
Lama Zangmo will explain topics such as: Developing Mindfulness and Introspection; How to deal with difficulties and problems in Shamatha meditation; Explanation of The Nine Stages of the Path to Shamatha ; The Prerequisites for attaining Shamatha.
There will be time for sitting and walking meditation, and explanation on how to bring awareness into daily life outside of formal meditation sessions.
The course will run over three Wednesday evenings and it is a requirement to commit to attend all four classes. Unless you are able to attend all the classes, we ask you not to book for the course. Each class will have time for instructions, questions and answers, as well as time for actual meditation.
Traditionally the Buddhist teachings are given freely because they are considered priceless and those receiving the teachings practice generosity, or Dana, by making monetary offerings for the centre. This generosity is not payment for goods or services rendered; it is an offering given, freely from the heart, in appreciation for receiving the precious instructions that can help better one’s life and the lives of others.
Making a donation directly helps to provide all the necessary conditions for the study and practice of meditation and Buddhism, bringing teachers to teach and maintaining a spiritual community as well as contributing to the considerable expenses that are involved in running a centre.
