This is one of a series of Wednesday courses for those who are new to meditation. It will cover various simple methods easy to apply in this 21st century busy lifestyle, taught as a way to tame the mind and develop calm abiding. If time and space allows, there will be an introduction to walking meditation, and instructions in how to bring awareness into daily life outside of formal meditation sessions.
Meditation and mindfulness, practised regularly over time, have strong potential to make one’s general state of mind more positive: increasingly we can become free of habitual reactivity, unhelpful emotional patterns, and limited ways of seeing ourselves and others. With a more open and relaxed mind we will have less stress resulting from our living situation, and less tendency to be thrown by the ups-and-downs that life presents. A regular meditation practice can bring a greater sense of inner peace and calm an overactive mind.
Each session will be a combination of teachings, plenty of time for meditation, as well as time for questions and answers.
This is a weekly course taking place every Wednesday evening for 4 weeks from 19.00 and 20.30 and it is a requirement to commit to attend all four classes. Unless you are able to attend all the classes, we ask you not to book for the course.
Traditionally the Buddhist teachings are given freely because they are considered priceless and those receiving the teachings practice generosity, or Dana, by making monetary offerings for the centre. This generosity is not payment for goods or services rendered; it is an offering given, freely from the heart, in appreciation for receiving the precious instructions that can help better one’s life and the lives of others.
Making a donation directly helps to provide all the necessary conditions for the study and practice of meditation and Buddhism, bringing teachers to teach and maintaining a spiritual community as well as contributing to the considerable expenses that are involved in running a centre.
