Monthly newsletter

Welcome to the June Newsletter.  We've just had a busy few days at Spa Road as members of the Sangha from as far afield as Spain, Samye Ling, and even Scarborough, gathered here before flying to Germany for the teachings being given by His Holiness the 17th Karmapa. I'm sure that having five Lamas in our kitchen at once must be some sort of record!

  • Volunteer Day - join us for a day of cleaning and tidying up the Centre before our summer closure. Saturday 26th July, more details in the next newsletter.
  • Summer closure - it may be a little way off, but no harm in noting in your diary that Spa Road will close at 9.00 pm on Sunday 27th July and reopen at 2.00 pm on Wednesday 13th August.

Over three evenings Lama Zangmo will explore how we can develop the three important qualities of courage, confidence and compassion and look at what hinders us in the process of that development.

  • Courage and fearlessness is the quality of a Buddha; fear is the underlying insecurity of a dualistic experience, and the realm of duality is where most of us find ourselves.
  • Confidence in our innate purity and potential is the basis for all our practice on the spiritual path. We trust that we can change for the better, that it is possible to tame the mind.
  • Compassion starts to arise as we begin to see the similarities of ourselves and others. We all want to be happy.

Lama Zangmo will also give meditation instructions during these evenings. Each session will have time for questions and meditation.

These talks are suitable for anyone who has already taken part in an introduction to meditation course and would like to gain a better undestanding of a Buddhist approach to life.

This course takes place on Thursdays 11th, 18th and 25th June. You  can book your place online by following the link at the bottom of the event page on the website, or over the phone with the Centre's office which can be contacted on 020 3327 1650.
Suggested contribution, £20.
The Medicine Buddha practice is an effective way to balance the physical, mental and spiritual health of ourselves and others. It can be of great help to all practitioners and particularly those in the medical profession.

The main motivation of the Medicine Buddha was to remove all suffering of beings in general, but especially to remove the physical and mental suffering caused through imbalance of the elements, which we know as physical and mental illness.

Over this weekend Lama Zangmo will give instructions on the sadhana text, the visualisations, meditations and benefits of this practice, as well as actually doing the practice. Although it is best to have received empowerment for the practice, people are permitted to attend the instructions without empowerment, but attendants should at least have taken refuge.

Please bring text (available from the shop) pen and paper.

The Medicine Buddha Instructions are being given by Lama Zangmo at Spa Road on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June, 10.00-5.00 pm - suggested contribution £55. To book your place now just follow the link at the bottom of the event page on the website, or contact the office on 020-3327 1650.
Clive Holmes

This weekend workshop will look at how to awaken up the potential we all have. The six paramitas (perfections) offer us guidance on how to live our lives so that our actions benefit both ourselves and others.

There will be a special section of the course devoted to self-compassion - learning how to respect our own true nature as well as that of those around us.

You do not have to be Buddhist to understand or benefit from the six paramitas which, when applied, can help us develop bodhicitta (the "awakened heart") which is the root of peace.

The Six Paramitas with Clive Holmes takes place at Spa Road on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June, 10.00-4.00 pm, suggested contribution £55. To book your place now just follow the link at the bottom of the event page on the website, or contact the office on 020-3327 1650.

PLEASE NOTE - for courses run by Samye Dzong London, prices mentioned are suggested course donations only. A lack of funds should not prevent anybody from attending.
