Invitation to the official opening of the new Centre at Spa Road

Sunday 20th and Monday 21st June

I am very pleased to invite you to the official opening of Kagyu Samye Dzong London Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Centre for World Peace and Health on Sunday 20th June.

In June last year we became the proud owners of a beautiful 120-year-old library building in Bermondsey, near Tower Bridge. Since then a group of volunteers has been working non-stop on the renovation and we will now be opening it to the public just one year after receiving the keys.

The Highlights of the day will include:

10am -Akong Tulku Rinpoche will be cutting the ribbon and officially opening the centre with a talk followed by a loving kindness meditation, Chenrezig Puja.

2pm - Lama Yeshe Rinpoche will be giving a talk, followed by other speakers.

3.30pm - A group of 16 Tibetan dancers will be performing traditional Tibetan songs and dances.

On Monday 21st June we will have a day of prayers, also open for everyone to attend:

10am - Guru Rinpoche Tsok Puja.  2pm - Mahakala Tsok Puja.

I very much look forward to starting our activities in this beautiful place and hope to see you for the opening celebration.

Kind regards

Lama Zangmo

2 - Big push at Spa Road - volunteers needed - only 4 weeks to go!!!!

For all those who have been wanting to help, but haven't had the skills we've needed to date, now is your big chance! The Centre is at the painting and decorating stage where we really need a lot more hands on deck. While there are plenty of jobs, we especially need help with:

  • Painting and decorating - we're now at the stage when we need lots of people who are willing and able to wield paint brushes, and there's a lot of walls that need covering!
  • Cooking - If you'd like to help boost the morale of those working on Spa Road with good food, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

You missed a bit!

All you need to do is let us know when you want to turn up and to commit for at least a full day, starting from approx 9.00 am. If you'd like to join us, please don't hesitate to contact the office by phone on 020-7708 8969 or by email.

3 - New Centre, new arrangements - from the beginning of July

With the opening of Spa Road we find ourselves, once again, in the position of running two centres. With limited numbers of sangha and volunteers, that means a change in the regular programme at Manor Place is necessary.

We really want to be bringing people together on one site, and as Spa Road will be our long term home and main Centre, we will be focusing most of our energy and Dharma activities there.

From the beginning of July onwards:

Spa Road - will be hosting all Dharma activities, including weekend pujas, courses and any visiting teachers. A detailed weekly programme for Spa Road will be in the next newsletter which will be sent out in mid-June.

Manor Place - will continue with Shinay meditation on weekday evenings, the monthly introduction to meditation on Thursdays, the Community Clinic and room hire.
PLEASE NOTE -
There will be no pujas at Manor Place on Saturdays or Sundays when the Centre will close at 6.00 pm.
From the beginning of July all weekend pujas will take place at Spa Road.

The future of Manor Place - Manor Place will be open for at least another one or two years, possibly longer - depending on the Council's plans for the future development of the site. If there is any news to communicate about this, we will let you know.

The full programme for both Centres will be available on the website and we will also state the location of all events in all our publicity, including this newsletter.
