Community Clinic: Therapies offered

Holistic massage with Lise-Marie Lejamtel

Lise

I worked for a number of years in a caring capacity where I became aware of the benefits of a caring touch. Massage doesn't only have physiological effects such as muscle tension release, better regeneration of the cells, improved circulation or better skin tone and colour through removal of dead cells. It can also bring out a wonderful sense of mental relaxation, soothing and comfort. In the long term it improves body image, awareness and general self-esteem.

I qualified and insured as a holistic massage therapist and offer part or full-body massage, using oil on the skin. The body is fully covered with towels, except the part that is worked on. Techniques include effleurage, manipulation of the muscles, compressive and kneading movements, light percussions and lymphatic drainage movements. The client is encouraged to give feed-back during the massage so that I can adapt the pressure and focus where it is needed.

The first session always starts with a consultation to check the suitability of the treatment. If you have contra-indications, I may need you to ask an authorization from your doctor prior to the treatment.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Shiatsu with Nick Wilsdon

Shiatsu works on a deep level, rebalancing the body’s energy and internal organs, relieving stress and blockages in the energetic flow, and harmonising mind, body and spirit.

Originally from Japan, shiatsu combines the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine, with that of the west, using the same energy channels and points as acupuncture, and therapeutic massage techniques from Japan with western medical knowledge. Shiatsu incorporates deep tonification techniques, and more dynamic stretches to get the qi (energy) flowing. Because Shiatsu heals on a profound level, and treats the emotions as well as the physical body, the recipient may find a greater spaciousness in the body and mind afterwards as holding patterns release and shifts happens on a deep level in the body.

I have worked with people all my working life, both as a teacher of English and as a support worker for those with mental health problems. After having studied Yoga, Qi Gong, Meditation and Medical Anthropology, I trained in shiatsu as a way of integrating the treatment of spiritual, emotional and physical conditions. I have been treating people with shiatsu for over four years with a wide variety of conditions.

Shiatsu is an effective treatment for bad backs, asthma, anxiety, digestive problems, depression, insomnia, frozen shoulder, tendonitis, ME, menstrual problems and a range of other somatic complaints. It is also a wonderfully nurturing and invigorating treatment to receive, and an excellent treatment to maintain health and well-being.

Acupressure Massage and Relexology with Karin Summers

Originally from a science background (Cancer Research), with an Applied Biology Degree, I started my training as a massage therapist about 6 years ago. After learning the basics of Holistic massage and Anatomy and Physiology, I studied Reflexology which I found an extremely effective methodology. Prompted by a desire to be able to give effective treatments to all sorts of people in all sorts of circumstances, I went on to study sports massage which gave me a more in depth knowledge and seated acupressure chair massage.

The Acupressure seated massage I perform is derived from the Traditional Japanese massage (AMMA), introduced by David Palmer, an american, in the eighties. He first instigated the, now familiar, portable massage chair and marketed this effective and accessible style of treatment to the western world. This therapy, in which the client remains fully clothed, provides an invigorating boost and is deeply relaxing. Deep pressure is applied to over 150 acupressure points over the neck, back, shoulders and arms, stimulating the proper flow of energy throughout the body systems.

Cranio Sacral Therapy with Frederick Maitland

I have been practicing Cranio Sacral Therapy since 1999. I have trained and assisted with the Milne Institute's Visionary CranioSacral Work program, both in the United States and Italy. I have also studied with the Upledger Institute, and the Biodynamics of Charles Ridley. I am a full member of the CranioSacral Therapy Association of the United Kingdom.

As well as my CranioSacral Therapy qualifications, I graduated with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree in the United States. I have also received trainings from a number of Native American teachers, particularly Dr Leslie Grey, of the Woodfish Institute, San Francisco, California.

What I love about CranioSacral, is how subtle and profound it is, mirroring our true inborn capacity for health and healing. I greatly enjoy working with people of all ages, and am fascinated by each person's life story and experiences. I am inspired both by my teachers, and the masters I have met on my travels. Yet it is within the deep stillness of Nature that I find the heart of my practice.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with further questions and/or to book your sessions.

Polarity Therapy with Zofia Hockin

Zofia

Polarity therapy has been developed by Dr Randolph Stone, a chiropractor, osteopath, and naturopath (1888-1981), after his extensive studies of traditional Oriental medicine, as an integration of Eastern and Western healing systems,.

It is based on the idea ( similarly to Acupuncture or Shiatsu) that a person's health and well being are determined by the natural flow of life-energy through the body, while discomfort or illness on all levels - physical, mental, emotional or spiritual indicate imbalanced or blocked energy.

To restore and balance proper energy flows the therapist will mainly use bodywork, and when appropriate, exercise, advice on diet and counselling skills.

Polarity bodywork involves gentle holds, rocking, stretching and pressure-points. The client stays dressed during the session. Apart from relieving various symptoms, most clients finds it very relaxing.

Polarity exercise combines easy stretching postures, sound, breath and self-massage.

Dietary advice aims to eliminate toxins and to provide the body with good quality nutrients.

Counselling skills help the client to develop greater self-awareness, and to process their feelings in a safe and supportive space.

Polarity therapy is known to be particularly helpful for headaches, migraine, pregnancy and post-natal care, PMS and menopausal problems, stress, digestive disorders such as constipation & irritable bowel syndrome, back pain, arthritis and fatigue, but can also be applied to work with problems of a more psychological or emotional nature.
