MINDFULNESS TRAINING – MODULE 2 – WORKING WITH DISTRACTION

This is part of a six month training programme provided by the Mindfulness Association. Please see main entry in August and our website for more information. It is necessary to have completed module 1 in order to attend this weekend.
In this module, using the techniques learned and practised in module 1, we start to become more familiar with how the mind moves and follows habitual paths. We will also introduce the concept of "undercurrent and awareness" as a way of mapping the landscape of our minds.

KINDLY MINDFULNESS: Practice Weekend for Compassionate Mindfulness
with Alistair Appleton
Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd October 2011, 10am-4pm
Another chance to gather in the beautiful Samye Dzong London shrine room for a weekend of warm and friendly practice. In the week before the clocks go back, we spend two whole days exploring how mindfulness can work with some of the patterns that imprison our minds in unkindly ways.
The first day will run over the basic practice of compassionate mindfulness and the second day will concentrate on one aspect: namely, the way in which the stance we take towards the events of the mind is more powerful than the events themselves. Working mindfully with this subtle 'table-tilt' can have a profound effect on the way we relate to ourselves and to others.
Lama Zangmo will offer guidance and practice instruction based on the seven points of mind training, which is at the heart of Mahayana Buddhism. This is primarily a day of practice intended especially for those people who have already had some Tonglen instruction.
