COLLOQUIAL TIBETAN II
with Adele Tomlin

Thu 14 Jan - Thu 4 Mar (8 evenings). 7.15 - 8.30 - £55

Colloquial Tibetan is the language spoken daily in Tibet, whereas Classical Tibetan is the language of the Dharma Scriptures. Students of Tibetan Buddhism who wish to enhance their knowledge and understand native Tibetan teachings will find it helpful to understand both forms of the language.

This course will build on the foundation of Colloquial Tibetan I. The emphasis will again be on the spoken language, with new grammar and vocabulary addded each week. Whether you want to understand native Tibetan Dharma teachings or chat with Tibetans over a butter tea, this is the perfect course!

The textbook for the course will be the Manual of Standard Tibetan (Tournadre & Dorje, 2003). Those who did not attend Colloquial Tibetan I should familiarise themselves with all material up to lesson 5 in the manual.

Adele Tomlin has studied Tibetan intensively in India and Nepal and has worked as a translator at the Library of Tibetan Works & Archives in Dharamsala.
